May 27th WFMS Family Message (2024)

Good afternoon WFMS families,

Below are the updates and announcements from WFMS this week.

Student Expectations

As we conclude the 23-24 school year, we would like to bring to the attention of our families that we have seen an increase in poor choices by students that are not in alignment with the district’s Student Code of Conduct and WFMS School Expectations for students. We are asking families to review these expectations with their students and remind them of the consequences associated if students are in violation of the Code of Conduct. Of specific note are dress code violations, horseplay, cell phone use and social media access, and students fighting. Please help us conclude the 23-24 school year on a positive note.

2024-25 School Year Student Intent Form (Rising 7th and 8th graders)

As we conclude the 23-24 school year, we are already beginning to make preparations for the 24-25 school year. We are asking all families of current 6th and 7th grade students to complete a brief form regarding student intent for the 24-25 school year. We recognize many families may have plans to relocate or have a choice option which may impact your student’s enrollment with us. This is not an official enrollment or withdrawal, but does help us with planning. Please assist us by completing THIS FORM. If you have multiple students, please fill the form out for each student.

SUN Bucks Program

Recently information was shared by North Carolina’s Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) and Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) as they launched the USDA’s new SUN Bucks program for eligible students to address the summer hunger gap. Families who qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch should review the information below and apply. Paper copies of the application are available in the main office.

EOG Testing

EOG assessments will be given May 31st - June 4th. Please plan to have your students at school on time and avoid any medical appointments or absences on these dates. Students will be watching a video this week discussing the importance of EOGs and letting them know about the schedule following the EOG.

Following EOGs June 5th - June 12th, students who do not score proficient on the assessments will receive intervention and remediation support in their classes. Students who score proficient will be involved in enrichment activities to enhance their learning from the school year. More information regarding this bell schedule will be shared the week before EOGs begin.

Please support our efforts to help our students demonstrate their mastery of content on these assessments by reminding your student to eat a good breakfast, get plenty of sleep the night before, take their time on the assessment, and complete all support assignments teachers are giving them this week.

8th Grade End of Year Events

Parents of 8th grade students, please save the date of June 7th for your students' promotion ceremony. Doors will open at 5:15pm and the ceremony will begin promptly at 6:00pm. The event will be held in our gymnasium and to comply with fire code regulations each student will receive only two tickets for the event. For those with larger families we will be setting up a live stream so that others can still see the ceremony even if they can attend in person.
