Easy and Awesome Ways To Reuse Your Valentine Boxes (2024)

What do you do with Valentine boxes after the holiday is over in February? I have several easy, cute, and cheap ways to reuse them.

Valentine Boxes instructions

1. Photo Holder

I’m going to start by opening the box up and I’m going to just use this top piece. I’m going to take this box and I’m going to center it over the top of a picture of my kids.

I’m going to go ahead and trace around it and then I’m going to go ahead and cut the picture out

I’m going to place this picture inside the heart box. You can lodge it in or you can glue it in but I’d like to change mine in and out per season or with the different times of the year.

I can set this up on an easel somewhere I can also put some command strips on the back of it to stick it on the wall. I like to use the adhesive magnetic strips that can go on the back and then I can put it on my refrigerator.

2. Reusable Gift Box

For this next project, I’m going to take some wrapping paper and I’m going to measure the box two times, and then I’m going to go ahead and cut that out. You can use any kind of wrapping paper you want.

What I’m going to do now is paint on Mod Podge which goes on white and then dries clear.

Then stick the wrapping paper hearts to the top and the bottom of the box and let that dry completely.

Now that the box is all ready we can simply open it up and put any little gift in there or in my case I’m going to be putting a little gift card in there.

3. Storage for Small Items

For this next project, I’ll be using a bigger box but all of these projects today are adjustable with bigger and smaller boxes.

I’m going to be using folk art chalkboard paint for this one and what I’m going to go ahead and do is just paint a layer of the chalkboard paint onto this box. I’m going to let it dry and give it a second coat, and I’m going to do this to both sides.

You can leave it as is or I’m going to use it as a chalkboard so I need to season it by just spreading that chalk everywhere all over the top and then erasing it.

Now with the chalk, you can write on top what’s inside of it and one of the great things about this is you can open it up and it has compartments so this is great for jewelry or office supplies or anything like that.

4. Make A Snack Box

I’m going to redecorate this small box so I’m going to add a little dab of hot glue and place this rope on top and then I’m going to glue and wind it around and around until the whole top is coated in rope. On the other side what I’m going to go ahead and do is pull off the bottom flip it over and glue it back and now it looks like a simple plain bottom.

You can put whatever you’d like inside but I’m going to put some snacks in mine.

5. Make A Manicure and Pedicure station

This was a chocolate and caramel box from my husband and it’s not a heart but I’m going to find a fun way to use it.

I’m just going to take some gold tape and edge the outside perimeter of the box with it and this will go lovely in my kid’s bathroom.

I’m going to place the insert back in the center and I’m going to fill it up with a bunch of supplies.

I hope you’ll go craft one of these Valentine’s Day box ideas. You can also reuse the mailbox or DIY Valentine’s Box you decorated for your Valentine’s Day cards. My son decorated a cardboard box like a Rubix cube and for years we used it to hold large gifts inside of it for his birthday and other occasions. This worked well because the handle was the slot you put the cards in and the top had a lid you could pull on and off easily.

If you’re creating something for kids you can get created for the kiddo who loves unicorns, bee, basketball, robot, monsters, puppies, alligators, etc. You might be interested in seeing some of these posts where you can even hang that Pikachu, mermaids, unicorn valentine, and other valentine cards on display. We made these one year for my kid’s classroom party.

Other Ideas to use before and after the season:

Have fun building these with one of your kids and you’ll have a blast and have some giggles galore with a lot of memories. If you are feeling a little stuck, you can look for a template to help you online. Save up that oatmeal container and toilet paper rolls to have tons of fun and build a little mom/dad/grandparent and kiddo time.

• Puppy Valentine Box – we found a starter kit at the dollar store, and then built a puppy on top of the basic box.
